Nick Brownlee was born in Blyth, Northumberland, in 1967. After leaving university he joined the Newcastle Evening Chronicle as a reporter, and continued to work for local newspapers in the North-East for several years before moving to London to work as a feature writer for the Sunday People.
Following the publication of his debut novel BAIT in December 2008, Nick appeared on the Simon Mayo Book Review on Radio 5 Live, first as a victim and then as regular reviewer.
In 2009 he also appeared on a panel at the Reading Crime Festival.
Nick Brownlee now lives in Cumbria with his wife and daughter.
Shortly afterwards his first book was published: a guide to Coronation Street. Since then he has lost count of the number of non-fiction titles he has written, on subjects ranging from cannabis to manufactured pop music.
A keen cyclist, he has written a history of the Tour de France, VIVE LE TOUR. Originally published in 2007 which is due to be reissued to coincide with the 2010 edition of the race.
During his brief stint on Fleet Street, he got to dress up as Austin Powers and chaperone a Martian around Trafalgar Square.
It wasn't quite Watergate.
In 2000 he quit, went freelance, and moved back north.
